Stephen Spinder
Stephen Spinder has spent ten years photographing ethnic Hungarian communities in Hungary and in the Transylvanian region of Romania. Since 2006, he has also been photographing the churches and people of the Unitarian Church of Transylvania. His photographs accompanied the cover story of the Fall 2010 issue of UU World, "Walking in Others' Shoes: Twenty Years of the Partner Church Movement"; see an extended gallery on UU World's Flickr page.
Spinder's books include Ten Years in Transylvania: Traditions of Hungarian Folk Culture (2006) and Budapest Through My Lens: A Solitary Perspective (2002). His photographs also appear in a book published by the Unitarian Church in Transylvania celebrating its 440th anniversary, Négyszáznegyven év 1568–2008: Az Unitárius Egyház alapításának négyszáznegyvenedik évfordulóján (Kolozsvár: Erdélyi Unitárius Egyház, 2008).
Some of his photographs will appear in an exhibition at the First Church in Boston, Mass., October 17 (1:00 to 2:00 p.m.) and October 18 (6:00 to 8:00 p.m.), 2010.
