UU minister honored by truckers mag

It's not often that a UU minister is featured in a national trucker's magazine, but that's the case with the Rev. Bill Breeden, one of three ministers at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Bloomington, Ind.

The extended Breeden family, which includes 21 members who hold licenses to drive 18-wheel trucks, is featured on the cover of the September 2004 issue of Truckers News. The family won the magazine's annual Great American Trucking Family title.

The magazine included an article on Breeden, a part-time driver for his nephew, noting that he is the only person ever jailed during the Iran-Contra scandal. He served four days for removing a street sign in his hometown of Odon, Ind., that he said inappropriately honored Odon native John Poindexter, President Reagan's national security advisor. The article also mentions Breeden's work with prisoners, his activism against the death penalty, and his trips to Nicaragua to deliver relief supplies.

The article notes that other family members have also been involved in social justice work transporting relief supplies to a Navajo reservation and aiding a program supporting low-income individuals and families.
